Membership Application

In the New Testament, the local church is often referred to as the “Body” of believers. Each individual member brings unique gifts, experiences, talents, and perspectives that, when joined together with others, make one healthy, God-honoring, Kingdom-building Body that serves as the hands and feet of Christ in the world (I Corinthians 12:27). Thanks for considering joining our Body of believers!

Upon joining the church you are “covenanting” yourself to our church family. That is, before God, you are coming under the authority of the Elders of our church, looking to our church as your means of growth in faith, and committing yourself to the service of Christ through serving others in our church family. It also means you are looking to our church and bonding together with others in our church as a way to love, serve and reach the lost of our community and world.

To that end, the basic requirements of becoming a member include demonstrating you are a believer (your personal testimony), a profession of faith (including baptism by immersion), and a statement of commitment (signing the membership covenant).

Upon completion, please click submit. This application is then forwarded to the Elder Board.

Testimony of Conversion

This part of the application helps the church Elders understand your conversion to Christ. It is an excellent way for us to get to know you and praise God for what he has done in your life, assuring us of your conversion’s genuineness. It also helps you think through your story of how God saved you. If you prefer to give your testimony verbally, please get in touch with one of our pastors or an elder you are comfortable with.

Please describe your “conversion” experience. How by faith you trusted in the finished work of Christ on the cross as a sufficient sacrifice for your sins.

Affirmation of Faith

Conversion

I affirm that I have had a conversion experience, placing my faith and trust in Jesus Christ for my salvation. I affirm:

• I am a sinner, by nature and by choice

• I am unable, by my efforts, to merit favor in God’s sight

• Christ offered a once-for-all perfect sacrifice for my sins

• I have repented of my sin and asked for forgiveness for my sins

• My only hope for eternal life is righteousness offered through faith in Christ

• My works do not save me, but I am saved unto good works in the power of the Spirit

Romans 3:23-28, 5:8, 6:23, Ephesians 2:1-10, Titus 3:5, John 1:12, I Peter 3:18, I John 1:9

Baptism

I affirm that I took the step of obedience of baptism by immersion following my conversion as a profession of my faith and witness to the world of my commitment to serve Christ (Matt, 28:18-20).

(If you have not been baptized by immersion after your conversion you can fill out the Baptism Application Form. We do not recognize infant baptism as your personal public proclamation of your faith and expression of commitment to follow Christ.)

Statement of Faith

I have read and agree with the nine tenets of the Grace Community Church Statement of Faith and affirm the following:

• God is the Creator of all and exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son, and Spirit

• Jesus Christ is eternal God, born of a virgin, who suffered, died, rose again, and is exalted over all

• The Holy Spirit is eternal God, by whom we are regenerated, indwelt, and granted assurance

• Mankind is conceived in sin and is deserving of and unable to save himself from God’s wrath

• Christ’s death on the cross was a complete and sufficient atonement for sin

• Salvation is through Christ alone, for those who repent and believe

• The sixty-six books of the Bible are the inspired revelation of God to mankind

• God’s people are gathered into the church, through whom His word is preached, the ordinances practiced, and His glory spread

• Christ will return, and all will enter into eternal life through faith or everlasting punishment

Church Membership Covenant

A Church Covenant is a recognition that there are over 50 “one another” statements in the New Testament; we are to commit ourselves to other believers for loving, encouraging, exhorting, building up, and serving one another. Signing a Church Covenant demonstrates an understanding of the nature of the church: that it is the Body of Christ, the family of God. To join the “family” requires commitment and accountability, and the Member Covenant is an expression of this commitment. With this understanding, I affirm the following:

I Will Commit Myself to the Spiritual Maturity of Our Church

• I will strive to maintain the personal and corporate spiritual disciplines of Bible study, prayer, and worship

• I will promote spiritual growth in my home and among my family members

• I will seek to grow in holiness and live a victorious Christian life by the power of the Holy Spirit

Psalm 119:33-38, I Thess. 5:16-18, Psalm 78:4-7, Ephesians 4:20-24, I Peter 1:15-16
